The first anatomical characteristics in H. Erectus that differ substantially from H. Habilis is the brain size. H. Erectus’s brain is 950cc on average while H. Habilis is 600-650cc. This massive change in brain size requires the Erectus to look for more energy in food. This change in brain size, in my understanding, is able to achieve because of H. Erectus’s ability to use fire to cook meat which makes it easier to digest and its ability to run longer due to the lack of hair. With the new source of energy coming from lagger animals, H. Erectus are allow to use a lot of energy to invest in the development of the brain which will help them easier to adapt to the rapid changing of the environment around.
The second difference that I want to talk about between H. Erectus and H. Habilis is that what they hunt. H. Habilis uses Oldowan tools and hunts small animal like rabbits while H. Erectus uses Acheulean tools to scrape the meat from animals, like zebra which can be leftover from other carnivores or they hunt themself by using their ability to run long distances at low speed.
