There are two general types of research, qualitative and quantitative. All research articles can be classified as having a qualitative, quantitative, or both methods in their composition. Qualitative is connected to the aspects of quality, and quantitative connected to the numbers. According to the University of Wisconsin,2019, quantitative research also called empirical research, refers to any research based on something that can be accurately and precisely measured. A good example, it is possible to discover how many times per second a hummingbird’s wings beat and measure the corresponding effects on its physiology (heart rate, temperature, etc.)The University of Wisconsin also says, that a qualitative research refers to any research based on something that is impossible to accurately and precisely measure. For example, although you certainly can conduct a survey on job satisfaction and afterwards say that such-and-such percent of your responders were very satisfied with their jobs, it is not possible to come up with an accurate, standard numerical scale to measure the level of job satisfaction precisely. In nursing these two methods are very important to develop a good a accurate research, with these two methods combined is possible to research properly and use the results to improve the care delivered and innovate the technics, and procedures that nurses do daily.
An example of research that I wish to investigate for the advancement of the nursing role:
Quantitative nursing research: What is the incidence of obese preschoolers in obese families in South Florida? How many times a year preschoolers are screened, advised, or put in programs to reduce obesity in South Florida?
Qualitative nursing research: How does obese families feel about themselves, and having a obese preschooler? How and obese preschooler feels about their image, how that affects their self steam and ability to socialize in the society?
