Research is distinguished into two categories, i.e. quantitative and qualitative research. Quantitative research represents a quantity as it is based on numbers and its purpose is to use measuring technique, statistical observation, and data collection to prove the research. Qualitative research defines the quality of research that is focused on human perception through verbal, or written language. For instance: quantitative study measures the difference in weight or decrease in the number of pounds after running for 2 miles every day for 1 week, in a qualitative study it examines the participant’s perception, his feelings on losing weight after exercise, holistic approach and preferences.
The purpose of quantitative research is to measures the outcome using the experimental number of data sources to evaluate the pros and cons. The data analysis method in quantitative research starts with standardized questionnaires to collect numeric data and determines the connection between variables and outcomes (Rutberg, 2018). The data collected is analyzed and the conclusion is drawn in quantitative research
The purpose of qualitative research is to addresses the social aspect and gathers information by interviewing to explore the problem and to provides a holistic perspective on the topic, and allows the researcher to become entrenched in the investigation (Rutberg, 2018). The data analysis method in qualitative research requires the selection of eligible participants who has experience with content. Quantitative research tends to have a small sample size with narrative data that needs to be analyzed and interpreted to identify trends to answer the research question (Rutberg, 2018).
An example of research that I wish to investigate for the advancement of the nursing role is illustrated below:
Quantitative nursing research: In high-risk women population does physical activity and dietary modification effects in the management of blood glucose?
Qualitative nursing research: The perception of high-risk women population towards the physical activity and dietary modification in the management of blood glucose?
