GBUS 310- Final Project-Business Proposals
For your final project, you will be writing a business proposal based on an assigned topic. This proposal is
required to be formally written. Your submission will include a cover page and your completed proposal. You will
also be required to create a PowerPoint presentation over your assigned topic. The written portion is worth 200
points and the PowerPoint Presentation is worth 100 points. Altogether, your final project is worth 300 points.
Written Proposal:
The proposal is expected to be written in 12 pt. Times New Roman font and double spaced.
You will include an introduction, body of your message, and conclusion.
PowerPoint Proposal:
The PowerPoint presentation will be based off of your written proposal. You are required to have a title slide
that includes: the name of your topic, name, course name and number, and date of submission.
Your written assignment:
Select a product you are familiar with and imagine you are the manufacturer trying to get a local retail outlet to
carry it.
Research the product online and in person (if possible) to learn as much as you can about it, then write an
unsolicited sales proposal to the owner (or manager) of the store, proposing that the item be stocked. Use the
information you gathered on the product’s features and benefits to make a compelling case for why the product
would be a strong seller for the store. Then mention who the competitors are and make up some reasonable
figures, highlighting what the item costs, what it can be sold for, and what services your company provides (return of unsold items, free replacement of unsatisfactory items, necessary repairs, and so on.) Be creative when you write your proposal! You are trying to get the company to take on your product which in turn brings
profit to the company you work for.
For help with dividing up your proposal, here is a sample outline. You do not have to follow this outline but it is
provided to give you a starting place.
I. For your introduction, introduce who you are, what company you are with, and what product you
are proposing.
II. Open the message body by explaining the product features and benefits to make a compelling case
for why the product would be a strong seller for the store.
III. Next, discuss who the competitors would be for the store. Also include reasonable figures on what
the item would cost the company, what the general selling price is for retail to customer, and any
other information you can provide.
IV. Lastly, discuss what your company provides such are how to return unsold items, free replacement
of unsatisfactory items, necessary repairs, and other services your company may provide.
V. For the conclusion, give contact information on how to contact you and if the company is interested
in taking on this product give brief instructions on how to get started.
PowerPoint Assignment:
Imagine that your proposal has been approved and the owner, or manager, of the store has invited you to come
give a presentation to the stores management team. The management team will then vote after your
presentation to move forward with your proposal or not. The owner, or manager, told you that he/she shared
with their team what your product is and they seemed interested to hear more. The owner, or manager, did not
give them details from your proposal. Create a PowerPoint presentation of your proposal that you would use as
a visual aid to present to the team. For this presentation, you will not need to fill out the notes section as your
PowerPoint is going to be based off of your written proposal. The PowerPoint is a visual aid to highlight your
talking points and convey arguments of why the store should start utilizing your proposed product.
Remember, this is a professional presentation. Please pay attention to the color of slides you choose, the size
font, and the number of words on a slide. Your audience is more apt to look at bullet pointed information or
look at graphs and charts. They will not want to read a paragraph or watch you read the paragraph off of the
slide. Create the presentation as if you are going to be utilizing it to present your proposal.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out at any time.
