Unit 1 Discussion – Introduction and P.R.I.C.E.

Instructions
You are to select and interview a professional in the nursing career field (You can make up a mock interview with someone from the Emergency department). You are to complete the interview in person or by phone (This can be a fabricated interview). At the beginning of the interview, you will explain the P.R.I.C.E. elements to the interviewee and then ask these questions:

The P.R.I.C.E elements are:
The P.R.I.C.E. of Success is not just a catchy phrase or a great play on the word price; it is a map to guide you to a successful future. Professionalism, respect, integrity, caring, and engagement are all hallmarks of a successful career and life. You have been encouraged to incorporate these elements into your interactions with faculty, staff, and your peers.

“Soft skills” describes those transferable skills that help you work with others and get things done. They are skills you use in communication; conflict, time, and stress management; and when you are placed in a position of leadership.

1. Have you seen the impact of applying these elements in your career?
2. Which element(s) is/are the most important in your career field?
3. In what situations are these elements the most challenging to utilize?
4. Would you add or subtract from this list of elements if you could?
5. Do you feel these elements are applicable for careers in this field in the future?

While you have been given the questions for the interviewee to answer, you still need to take some time to be prepared in advance of the interview. Be sure to either take notes during the interview or ask permission and tape responses so you can remember what was said while completing the Unit 1 worksheet (see attached).
