Part 1 Discussion post:
1. Read the IAT result attachment titled “Weight IAT Test Result”
2. Read the Research paper attachment titled “Article p.1 through p.7”
3. Consider the following situation: Suppose you are an exercise science practitioner working in a medical weight loss center. Your job is to create exercise programs to promote weight loss.
4. Answer the following questions:
– Based on the evidence provided in the reading, and the results of your IAT test, how could bias impact your relationships with and ability to motivate your clients?
– What are the potential harms of health and exercise science professionals harboring unconscious bias towards individuals living with overweight or obesity?
– Do health and exercise science professionals have a responsibility to identify and address personal bias before entering a health/fitness profession? Why or why not?

Part 2 Discussion post:

In the attachment article titled “Physical Fitness Level of First Year Exercise Science Students”, the authors suggest the use of fitness assessment data to predict academic and professional success of Exercise Science students and compared the results to normative data and used the 50th percentile (average) to determine if students met/did not meet the fitness standards.
