BIOME: TROPICAL RAIN FOREST
BOTH ITEMS I NEED TO COVER ONLY : LOCATIONS AND CLIMATE
Locations – a map is essential- Beatriz Aguilar
climate – a climagraph is essential- Beatriz Aguilar
INSTRUCTIONS::::::
The BIG Issue- Life on Earth and Some Possible Consequences of Global Climate Change
This is the final of two related reports. Your group will research and then describe one terrestrial ecosystem (biome), both flora and fauna, soils and climate, and in conclusion discuss briefly implications of global climate change on that biome (including human activities which may be contributing to climate change and how that biome might potentially suffer, or benefit, in future).
Final Due date: May 28, 2020 at 9pm. No extensions are possible.
Length: PowerPoint presentation – 8 slides plus one for References/Sources
Preparation: Your textbook is the first place to read about this topic.
Your group will post a single presentation of the major facts uncovered in your research, in Powerpoint format.
Step 1. Read your textbook Chapter 7, 8, 9.
Step 2. Collection of information
Collect serious information on this topic from reputable sources, especially your textbook. Read and make notes in detail. The following are recommended:
https://php.radford.edu/~swoodwar/biomes/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/geography/ecosystems/biomes_rev2.shtml (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/glossary/gloss5/biome/index.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
Use concepts and terms from this course, but your presentation must definitely not be copied straight from the textbook (or from any other source). Avoid newspaper (short-term) sensationalism.
As well as facts, use pictures, maps, graphs, etc. to catch viewers’ attention. Outside websites may be a source for visuals but be sure to note the exact source in full when you save items, so you others can find the same originals. (This is your final slide)
Keep in touch with your group so that you are not duplicating effort and information. All should share the work.
You can decide among your group which will be your specialties (you do not need to use all these)
Locations – a map is essential
climate – a climagraph is essential
soils (compare with a couple of adjoining biomes perhaps)
Flora and fauna – adaptations to this biome are important
Economic considerations – past, present, future
Human uses of and changes to this biome
Historic and current threats, attempts to save, protect, restore this biome
depictions of this biome in novels, other books, films, other media – but remember this is a physical geography class
Future of your biome (its inhabitants- human, animal, plant) due to possible effects of climate change
Do not forget the final (9th) slide may be used for sources – Sources
Step 3.– Demonstrating your knowledge, Reporting your findings
ONLY ONE PERSON PER GROUP, namely Your group leader will post ONE single presentation of the major facts uncovered in your research, in Powerpoint format.
Agree at the outset on a slide format (simple background; font color/ size; etc) which will minimize work for the one who combines for the final presentation.
Do not have slides filled with text only. You want to interest your audience, as well as inform them.
Do not use busy backgrounds which overwhelm the information. A single pale color is best here.
Please remember your work should be entirely free of spelling or grammatical errors, no contractions; be logically planned and organized, demonstrate your familiarity with concepts, terms, and themes of physical geography. For a visual presentation it should be attractive, easily understandable, and above all informative. Post the PPT under the BioGeo tab/
Step(s) 4. Send me by email, an honest evaluation of your work and that of your individual team members. There should be no “free riders”. Read and comment under discussions.
