There needs to be a change in the reimbursement of nurse practitioners in order to make that field of work enticing for providers as well. The Affordable Care Act allows for greater access to healthcare, and with that is a decrease in available providers. Federally funded residency programs would address the large volume of healthcare disparity without sacrificing quality. This would also allow for a standard of care across the state, and these practitioners going forward would have a strong clinical background in primary care.
