In this case, instead of looking for the rhetorical strategies of ethos, pathos, and logos, you will analyze the text by reading through a specific lens…better known as Literary Theory. You will analyze the text from what is called the Feminist Perspective- sometimes called Feminist Theory. What is Literary Theory? 1. Read the information regarding Literary Theory from the Purdue OWL. 2. View the video “What is Literary Theory” for a better overview and understanding. You will analyze our next text from what is called the Feminist Perspective- sometimes called Feminist Theory. What is Feminist Theory? 3. Think of it this way….if you were to analyze Cinderella through the lens of Feminist Theory you would focus specifically on HOW Cinderella is marginalized. How the Prince holds all the power of her happiness and how she is provided very little choices in life due to her lack of power. 5. Read the document titled “How to write from a Feminist Perspective”. 6. Read the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper”. 7. Read “Why I Wrote “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gillman. 8. Write an analysis essay on the short story from the Feminist Perspective. (see instructions below for essay) Direction for essay: Begin with a summary of the text (150-200 words) Be sure to include what you think happened to the main character Apply the feminist perspective to the text. (250-350 words) Answer questions such as: what does the text say about middle-class women in the late 19thcentury o How is a patriarchal ideology represented in the story? (control of a masculine character) o How is the relationship between the husband and the wife presented? Be sure to include quotes from the text to support your analysis (minimum 4) End with your critique of the text. Did you like it or not? Why or why not (100 words)
