TED.com provides the world’s greatest modern thinkers a platform on which to share their ideas with the world. TED conferences are held around the globe numerous times per year and the speakers range from biologists to fiction writers, musicians and actors to programmers and code writers. Progressive thinking is highly encouraged by these speakers, who seek to help us discover ways to improve our lives at both a global level and at a personal level. For this assignment, I want you to find one TED Talk at TED.com or Youtube that relates to at least one of the subjects we discussed this semester in class. These talks usually range in length from 15-30 minutes, so be sure to listen to/watch the whole thing (Who knows? You might learn something from them while you’re at it). Once you have developed an understanding of the topic, I want you to write about it. Within the body of your paper, you must:
Use an APA-style title page that includes a title for the paper, your name, and the name of this educational institution (Also include a proper APA-style running head and page number – See “APA-Style Formatting” for instructions)
Introduce a topic from the book that you find interesting and is relevant to the TED Talk. Start with a good hook that shows us how this field is interesting. Then, in your own words, be sure to explain some relevant aspect of the topic in detail. For example, if you are using a TED Talk about false memories, you might discuss a few things you’ve learned regarding forgetting and misinformation. Use at least two examples from the book or the lectures to demonstrate your expertise of the topic (Note: If you mention something I said in class, you do not need to formally cite me in the paper)
Transition smoothly to introducing the speaker and what field of expertise they claim to come from (Is the person a psychologist? A journalist? A dancer? A writer? Who are they?)
Summarize their main point – What were they attempting to teach the audience?
Bring the conversation back to your topic and explain what they mean in light of the topics you’ve chosen and learned about this semester in class. Tell us why you think this is important for us to understand – Will this improve our lives? Is it a warning we must heed? Should people begin to do something about it?
Include a reference/works cited page.
Failure to address any of these areas will result in a deduction of points from your total score.
The paper must be at least 3 FULL pages, PLUS one line on the 4th page, in length (not including the title page works cited page)typed in 11-12pt font, double-spaced with 1” margins on all sides. I want an APA-style title page on the first page (If you don’t know what this is, look it up!), proper headers that include a running head and a page number, and proper citation of any sources besides my lectures (APA style on a separate page). Files must be submitted as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file. This means no Google Docs links, since these often require permissions, and no .pages, since this only works on Apple computers and can’t be read by Canvas. Improper citation may result in a loss of points. Use of someone’s language besides your own without any attempt to give due credit to the author will result in a zero on the paper or a possible ‘F’ in the class.
This assignment consists of two submissions:
Your topic proposal – A declaration of which TED Talk you have chosen and which topic from the class/book you are choosing to write about. I will give you feedback on this.
Your final TED Talk paper submission.
I choose this topic :
1. Dan pink: The puzzle of motivation
2. The topic from class I have chosen is motivation which is tie with autonomy, mastery and purpose.(modules 33-36)
