i tried doing this myself and she did not approve of my sources so please follow my professors instructions ,
Margaret Atwood has written that she would “not put any events into the book that had not already
happened” when discussing her novel The Handmaid’s Tale. If you haven’t already, read her article in
The New York Times. You will write the research paper about one of these issues.
1. Choose the following for exploration of some issues addressed in the novel:
• Quakers
2. Use the SAC Library databases Gale Virtual Reference Library, Credo Reference, or Funk &
Wagnall’s New World Encyclopedia to research information on the issue you selected. Consult all
these references sources to compile the information on your issue. DO NOT use a general Google
search. If you cannot locate substantial information in these sources, consult the library database
Academic OneFile. Finally, you may need to speak with a reference librarian if you are still having
difficulty. You can call, text or email a librarian from the Library homepage.
3. Type up a one-page summary of your findings on this issue to attach to the Comments of the
assignment in Canvas as your prewriting. (You will also need to attach one rough draft.)
4. After conducting a close reading of the novel by taking notes, freewriting, you should isolate
where you find the issue in the novel.
• Where does Atwood appear to address the issue? Every chapter? Multiple chapters? A
single chapter?
• What does the issue look like in the novel? Explain how the characters and/or plot
connect to this issue.
• What is Atwood saying about this issue? Does she support the issue, is she critical of it
or is she neutral?
5. Create a clear thesis that identifies the issue and what Atwood is saying about the issue.
6. Compose a 500-750 word essay by providing evidence for your thesis by quoting specific
lines or words from the novel to support your ideas. You should also use the information you
learned from researching your issue.
7. Include correct parenthetical documentation for any borrowed details from your sources,
making sure to cite the author’s last name, and the page number if applicable. Do not summarize or
paraphrase details from the novel. Include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper that
follows MLA documentation rules. Upload a final draft in through Turnitin by the due date.
