Your research paper will be worth 100 points, and should be about a chemistry-related topic of interest to you. While your topic can focus on a wide range of topics, please be sure that it is not pseudo-science, and that you can find references in the peer-reviewed primary scientific literature. The paper should include a minimum of five sources from the primary literature (peer-reviewed scholarly journals, not including review articles, monographs or books) and a total of at least 10 references from all sources (more is fine). You should expect to use sources such as books, review articles, web sites, drug inserts, etc. Be sure that you cite all of your references and DO NOT PLAGIARIZE!
The paper should be presented with standard margins, double-spaced, one space after a period, and use a simple, easy to-read font such as Times New Roman, Century Schoolbook, Courier, etc. In general, a large body of text is easier to read in a serif font such as these, instead of a san-serif font like Arial. In order to cover your topic completely, you should expect to have at least eight pages, plus your references. I would prefer that you include a title page. Do not cite your references as footnotes, they must be cited in the paper and listed in a detailed bibliography. Since this is a chemistry paper, you should expect to include chemical structures as appropriate. If you do not
have access to a chemistry-drawing program, there are several available free. Within your paper you must cite each source as it is used. You may do this with a parenthetical citation or you
may use numbers, but please do not use footnotes. If you use parenthetical citations, you will include (author, year) at each citation and list the references in alphabetical order by author’s last name. If you use the numerical system, you should use a superscripted number; assign a number to the reference according to the first time it is used. Then each time that same reference is cited use the same number.
