********Lesson 3 Application Exercise-The Crime Scene************
For this exercise, you will use a room in your residence and treat it as a crime scene from the scenario in Lesson 2 with the office building shooter. Imagine the room you choose, such as the dining room, is the meeting room where the initial shooting took place. Using a digital camera, take a series of photographs from the entryway and from each corner of the room. You will then hand sketch a diagram of this room. Choose a corner of the room as a reference point. Properly measure and put furniture in place on the sketch; include doors and windows. After you are finished, scan and save your file to a folder. You will then write a report of your crime scene walk-through. Feel free to add any details such as where victims were found, blood evidence, shell casings, etc. Save your report into the same folder with your scanned sketch and photos. Instructions to upload this folder are below.
Note: In any crime scene investigation, the detective or crime scene specialist will draw a rough draft of the scene prior to putting it on their department’s computer program. Please use a clean sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper when doing this exercise. Label your items in a fashion that is understandable to a lay person.
Sending multiple files requires you to create a folder that contains all files including photos. In this folder, save your photos, the scanned file of your diagram, and your written report of the crime scene walk through. If you do not have a scanner, you may take a photo of your diagram. Be sure the resolution is high enough for the photos to be enlarged for clarity. Name your folder “AJS275_Week(#)_(last name)”. You will now need to compress, or zip, the folder before uploading into RioLearn.
To compress (or zip) a folder:
Locate the folder you want to compress.
Right-click the folder, point to Send to, and then click Compressed (zipped) folder.
A new compressed folder is created in the same location. This is called a zip folder.
Upload your zip folder into RioLearn by clicking the link below.
