This is a research paper on any topic we choose, I chose addiction. I want my paper to talk about the biology of addiction and the psychology of addiction (below is a general thesis and counterclaim for that)
Thesis: With greater awareness of the science and psychology behind drug and alcohol addiction, people can both understand and treat addicts in a productive manner.
Counterclaim: Addiction is a choice, therefore the only person who can help an addict is themselves by choosing not to use controlled substances.
I also want to talk about the current help systems in place for addiction and how they can be improved.
The general outline I was thinking of is kind of like this:
Intro: background on addiction (how may people suffer, how many are treated, etc), the thesis would go at the end of the intro
Counterclaim: people think addiction is a choice
Paragraph one: addiction on a biological level (the brain chemistry factor of it, symptoms) (how it’s caused, what an addicts brain looks like, etc.)
Paragraph 2: addiction on a psychological level (cravings, dependencies, symptoms, how the brain believes one is in danger if they don’t have drugs/alcohol, etc.)
Paragraph 3: the current/common methods of treatment for addiction (what’s believed to work the best or what’s used most)
Paragraph 4: the proper treatment methods that should be put in place
Paragraph 5: how this can benefit an addict (identifying addiction and seeking help)
Paragraph 6: how it can benefit friends/family of addicts (how to help and treat others with addiction, understanding it’s not a choice)
