You will be developing the competency of maintaining professional integrity and respect as you work on a project. You will work to create a logical model for the family reunion database. You will also apply normalization as you develop this logical model
Part 1
Scenario: You are going to be in charge of your family reunion this year, and you have decided to set up a database to hold all your family information. Before you begin developing the actual database, you need to do a bit of research. You need to find out what a relational database is and how to develop one.
As a database administrator, it is important to understand the conceptual nature of a relational database. Database administrators today continually research customer’s needs when designing and developing a database. This activity will help prepare you to conduct this type of research.
You will compose an essay that fulfills the following requirements:
Provide a detailed explanation to support your position. Be sure your essay demonstrates superior organization and is well-ordered, logical, and unified. Your essay should show no evidence of plagiarism, and you must cite at least two scholarly references to support your position. Follow all writing requirements, referring to Written Assignment Requirements for details.
Written work should be free of spelling, grammar, and APA errors, and contain no evidence of plagiarism. Follow all APA style guidelines, including properly formatted title and reference pages. Your paper must be at least two pages long, double-spaced, excluding the title and reference pages. Format your paper with 1-inch margins and 12- point font.
In your paper, you must demonstrate knowledge of a relational database. Your goal is to demonstrate to your professor that you understand what a relational database is.
Describe the six database objects available in Access and describe the five-step design method discussed in your reading.
The paper must be written in your own words. You are encouraged to read the assigned readings first to gain valuable insight for your paper.
Written work should be free of spelling, grammar, and errors. Points deducted from the grade for each writing, spelling, or grammar error are at your instructor’s discretion.

Part 2

Using VISIO (download from IMAGINE) or your favorite drawing program, you will create a conceptual model of your family database using Crow’s foot notation. Your Conceptual model must contain at least two tables.
Identify the entities and attributes for your conceptual model.
Identify the relationships between the entities.
You will compose a paper explaining why a high-level conceptual model is needed. Explain how you derived your conceptual model, a drawing of your conceptual model and an explanation of how you identified your entities and relationships.
Use APA format, which includes a title page, reference page, and at least 2 pages for the body of the paper. The paper must be written in your own words. You are encouraged to read the assigned readings first to gain valuable insight for your paper. If you elect to include some material from the Web, it must be properly referenced via APA standards.

Part 3
You will create a logical model for the family reunion database. You will also apply normalization as you develop this logical model.
Instructions:
You will synthesize a logical diagram for the family reunion database using Crows Foot Notation. The model must be normalized to BNF3.
You will compose a paper that includes the following:
An explanation of how you derived your logical model.
List and explanation of the steps you took to normalize your logical model.
An explanation of how you identified your keys and relationships.
A drawing of your logical model.

A separate page at the end of your paper should contain a list of references, in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
Be sure to cite both in-text and reference list citations were appropriate and reference all sources. Your sources and content should follow proper APA citation style. Review the APA formatting and citation style found in the Writing Center (It should include a cover sheet, paper is double spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font, correct citations, Standard English with no spelling or punctuation errors, and correct references at the bottom of the last page.).
If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.
