Requirements for the analytical essay on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In a five-to-seven paragraph analytical essay, include the following:

The Title
The Introductory Paragraph should include: 1) A statement with interesting language that attracts readers’ attention; 2) The author’s name (or in this case, address his anonymity); 3) The title either underlined or italicized; 4) A general account of the piece; 5) Minimal background information about the literary piece’s subject, and 6) The thesis statement.
The Body (3 to 5 paragraphs) should include: 1) Specific examples of evidence; 2) An analysis of how quotations, passages, descriptions, and comparisons support the thesis statement. The quotations should include the opinion of other literary critics, the writings of biographers, and the author’s personal comments or letters. With these items, you should answer the question, “How do they align with the thesis statement?”
The Concluding Paragraph should include: 1) A rewording of, addition to, or clarification of the thesis statement; 2) A summary of your main supporting ideas, and 3) A challenge to readers to continue to think about ideas you presented in your essay.
