) During the course of the next four sub-modules, you will complete a Problem/Solution essay based on documented research from the Pew Research Center. The paper must be five paragraphs in length with a maximum of six-hundred words; you should include an abstract and “References” page.

Overview:

You will draft an essay that explores a concern negatively impacting the United States. Consequently, you must identify and analyze: a social issue, one viable solution, and a call-to-action, based on data compiled from two secondary sources located in the school-based libraries. The topic must derive from the Pew Research Center. Examples of some subject matters are poverty, employment, discrimination(be specific), college tuition, student loan debt, immigration, technology/social media, and drug abuse; however, do not address LGBTQ/Reproductive rights (i.e., abortion), gun violence, or global warming. If a problem you want to discuss is not on the website, please seek approval from the instructor. The goal is to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the social issue regarding the depth of its concern rather than disprove, debunk, or dispel a problem. Failure to adhere to the directions will result in a zero without the opportunity to revise and resubmit the composition.

Researching & Documenting:

Research: You must have two credible sources originating from academic journals found in the library databases that provide professional research from scholarly articles. Remember to keep your focus on the United States, but in some cases, you may have to broaden your scope to gather international statistics or comparisons from other countries to help situate or contextualize your arguments.

Citations should appear in APA format with a “References” page.
Cited information should not exceed 15%.
Incorporate two additional sources to authenticate initial claims.

Documentation: Documentation should be in APA format. You can retrieve assistance from the databases, but double check the structures against the resources—like the textbook, Purdue OWL, SPC’s Guide on Citations, or APA Style Home—available to you. Remember to adhere to your instructor’s specifications regarding the stylistics.

Formatting the essay:

The paper must

Be double-spaced, including the “References” page.
Contain one-inch margins throughout the document, which is standard for Microsoft Word.
Present headers with running head, title page, and number on the first page (the title page).
Present title and page number in the headers on the second and all subsequent pages.
Feature an original title centered on the first page of the actual essay.
Include an abstract and title page.
