Rhetorical analysis of a scholarly article

One scholarly or two scholarly articles from the library’s database; MLA or APA format and citations from whatever article you use (but don’t mix citation styles); TNR 12-point font; no spaces between paragraphs or weird margins; no other outside sources besides your scholarly articles. Keep in mind that we are beginning the “scaffolding” process of building sources for your upcoming assignments, so please pick an article about a discipline or subject area that interests you and can be used to build a research paper.

DO NOT USE SECOND-PERSON YOU IN THIS ESSAY. USE “ONE” OR A MORE CONCRETE NOUN.
You should use third-person pronouns in this essay; do not use second or first-person “I” pronouns.

You are required to pick a scholarly article from the library’s database and analyze the article from a rhetorical perspective. Essentially, your goal in this paper is to make an argument about someone else’s argument and tell me why their “argument” is successful or not and how. If you use two articles, you may compare them to one another. The article must be scholarly and must be from the library’s database. DO NOT use a book.

You will then write a 4-5 page analysis of your piece. You should analyze your text from the rhetorical perspective. In other words, you need to use the concepts of ethos, logos, and pathos to analyze your text. In the opening paragraph, you should have a quick 4-5sentence summary of your text, but then your thesis statement should be analytical.

Tips:
Do not summarize the entire paper or papers. Only use 4-5 sentences in the beginning to summarize your texts. Use your “analysis verbs” and rely on the rhetorical triangle to guide your analysis.

Do not use second-person you.

Good pre-writing questions for your thesis are: “What argument is my text making? Is it successful? Why or why not? How?” Answering these questions will create a strong thesis.
Do not put these questions in your thesis but use them to form your thesis.
