For an article to be empirical, it must report data and should have sections describing the methods and results of the research. A review paper is not empirical research. FOR THE SUMMARY: Describe the study in enough detail for your reader to have a solid grasp of what the researchers did, why they did it, and what they found. WHAT TYPE OF CRITICAL ANALYSIS TO INCLUDE: In your critical analysis, you should highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the research. Did the researcher provide a compelling rationale for the research? Did they employ a sound methodology? Have they interpreted the results sensibly? Identifying a weakness is not sufficient. You must also explain why it is a weakness. For example, students often focus their criticism on the sampling method (e.g., recruitment of undergraduate students). This is good practice, provided that you explain why this is a weakness for this particular study. This requires consideration of whether the sample participants are different from the wider population to which the findings are generalized.
