PLEASE ONLY USE THE SOURCES I PROVIDED IN THE FILES. AND DO NOT COPY FROM THEM DIRECTLY BUT RATHER USE YOUR OWN LANGUAGE TO TALK ABOUT THE CONCEPT
ABSOLUTELY NO PLAGIARIZED OR QUOTED MATERIAL WILL BE ALLOWED. NONE. IF YOU COPY SENTENCES FROM ANY SOURCE AT ALL YOU WILL FAIL AND BE SENT TO ACADEMIC INTEGRITY. NO COPYING AT ALL – NOT EVEN ONE SENTENCE. DON’T EVEN QUOTE THINGS. EVERY SINGLE WORD IN THIS ASSIGNMENT MUST BE WRITTEN BY YOU ALONE – we are NOT working with partners or groups on this makeup – this is YOUR WORK ONLY. Sometimes you will write things that will show up as the same as other sources, but I can tell when it is copied or just a random coincidence for a small string of words. Don’t stress about this but just do NOT copy from other sources. At all.
Now, do the assignment again. FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW EXACTLY – DON’T’ SKIP ANYTHING – PARTIAL CREDIT WILL NOT BE GIVEN FOR INCOMPLETE WORK. Cite frequently and do not copy anything – do not use any of the same strings of words that are in the articles I provided or any other article – DISCUSS THE RESEARCH in your own words and show that you actually understand what you read. Act as if you are now an expert in this topic and you are relating all this info to us.
Your paper will follow the format outlined below. You will clearly label each Use professional language as if you were writing for a journal yourself. THOROUGHLY answer the question asked Explain yourself with a lot of detail and USE CITATIONS CONSTANTLY whenever you are discussing something you found in one of the sources. NEVER, EVER COPY DIRECTLY FROM YOUR SOURCES EVEN IF YOU USE QUOTES. Anytime that you are stating facts from another source (all your facts are from another source) you MUST cite the source. You can’t just provide one citation every few paragraphs, you need to cite your source as you are discussing the information you got from that source. And you MUST use APA citation format, not MLA or any other format.
BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE CITING YOUR SOURCES AND NOT CUTTING AND PASTING or paraphrasing/parroting BUT RATHER CLEARLY STATING IN YOUR OWN WORDS WHAT THE RESEARCH TELLS US. There is literally no excuse for not writing this entirely in your own words
You must use ALL FIVE SOURCES THAT I HAVE GIVEN YOU – four of these are directly related to your topic, the other is a summary of the topic area. Use all of these and nothing else. This topic area was put up for the whole class to use and see, so there is a “page” in that module with lots of good info on therapy animals – these videos and links are for the class to use, but not for you to use for the paper. You should ONLY use the articles provided as pdf docs in the module.
We are not following FULL APA paper style as we are not writing a complete research paper with all sections. You do not have to include an abstract but a cover page is required with your full name and student ID#. Use 10 or 11 point font with one inch margins and one or one and a half spacing between lines (NOT double spaced). For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about when I say “APA citation style” here’s a link to the Purdue writing center which provides an excellent annotated example of a paper written in full APA style https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/apa_sample_paper.html
FORMAT TO FOLLOW – What to include in your paper
1. INTRODUCTION and TREATMENT OVERVIEW – Summarize the topic and summarize the information from that FIRST article, about the topic of animal assisted therapy. Discuss such things as who does animal assisted therapy assist? How does it assist? Who started using it and why? How widely is it used and where is it used. What is the theoretical framework behind it? What risks are involved? What types of research have already been done and what needs to be done. Just summarize that first article as your introduction and then state which type of research YOU are planning to look into (equine therapy or animal assisted therapy) and what population / disorder the research you looked at will be discussing (remember – use the articles that I gave you) This will take a couple of pages. DO NOT COPY FROM THE ARTICLE. But cite the article frequently. Again, to be clear, I want you to take the information and summarize it IN YOUR OWN WORDS from that first article – the one titled Research in the use of animals as a treatment for humans by Karen Thodberg,* Bente Berget,† and Lena Lidfors‡ –
2. REVIEW OF THE RESEARCH. This is the “meat” of your paper. You will show how the treatment that you have chosen is empirically supported by the FOUR different research articles I provided you with. Summarize them, compare and contrast them, whatever you do, just don’t COPY FROM THEM. Make sure you are using the four articles that are meant to go together – stick with your topic.
i. Questions to try to answer here:
A) What are they researching? Who were their subjects? What was their diagnosis? (give details on the diagnosis also – you may have to look that up) How did they do the research? Where did they do their research. Who were their subjects? What were their methods. What types of controls did they use? What were they comparing their method of therapy to? What did they find. Basically compare and contrast and DISCUSS the articles in detail – answer MORE than what I ask above – go above and beyond here….. If you need help figuring out how to do a literature review, here’s one that is about this very topic but you may have to use the library VPN to access it https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0965229913002148 or this one https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2010-13306-002 (do NOT copy from these articles either and remember, these are not sources for you, they are examples.
B) Summarize the similarities and differences that you found in the articles – ie – were they truly investigating the same thing and did they find similar results? Summarize the findings. Do so in a way that REALLY DISCUSSES WHAT YOU FOUND – SHOW THAT YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND YOUR TOPIC AND REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE RESEARCH WAS SAYING – DO NOT JUST STATE FACTS FROM THE ARTICLES – DESCRIBE IT, ELABORATE ON IT, DISCUSS IT, HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT IT…..
C) Based on your review of these articles, do you think that the research that you reviewed does a good job of showing that the treatment is reliable and valid and an effective treatment for the disorder? Or did you see problems or have concerns about whether the research really IS showing efficacy? Were there problems with the research that you think should be addressed in future research? How do you think this research helps the field of psychology? Do you think this style of therapy is a good style to use? Who for? And why? Etc. etc. state your thoughts and opinions here.
3. SUMMARY – Write a summary that summarizes the above info and concludes your paper nicely.
