THOROUGHLY answer the question asked Explain yourself with a lot of detail and USE CITATIONS CONSTANTLY whenever you are discussing something you found in one of the sources. NEVER, EVER COPY DIRECTLY FROM YOUR SOURCES EVEN IF YOU USE QUOTES. Anytime that you are stating facts from another source (all your facts are from another source) you MUST cite the source. You can’t just provide one citation every few paragraphs, you need to cite your source as you are discussing the information you got from that source. And you MUST use APA citation format, not MLA or any other format.

You must use ALL FIVE SOURCES THAT I HAVE GIVEN YOU – four of these are directly related to your topic, the other is a summary of the topic area. Use all of these and nothing else. This topic area was put up for the whole class to use and see, so there is a “page” in that module with lots of good info on therapy animals – these videos and links are for the class to use, but not for you to use for the paper. You should ONLY use the articles provided as pdf docs in the module.
We are not following FULL APA paper style as we are not writing a complete research paper with all sections. You do not have to include an abstract but a cover page is required with your full name and student ID#. Use 10 or 11 point font with one inch margins and one or one and a half spacing between lines (NOT double spaced). FORMAT TO FOLLOW – What to include in your paper
1. INTRODUCTION and TREATMENT OVERVIEW – Summarize the topic and summarize the information from that FIRST article, about the topic of animal assisted therapy. Discuss such things as who does animal assisted therapy assist? How does it assist? Who started using it and why? How widely is it used and where is it used. What is the theoretical framework behind it? What risks are involved? What types of research have already been done and what needs to be done. Just summarize that first article as your introduction and then state which type of research YOU are planning to look into (equine therapy or animal assisted therapy) and what population / disorder the research you looked at will be discussing (remember – use the articles that I gave you) This will take a couple of pages. DO NOT COPY FROM THE ARTICLE. But cite the article frequently. Again, to be clear, I want you to take the information and summarize it IN YOUR OWN WORDS from that first article – the one titled Research in the use of animals as a treatment for humans by Karen Thodberg,* Bente Berget,† and Lena Lidfors‡ –

2. REVIEW OF THE RESEARCH. This is the “meat” of your paper. You will show how the treatment that you have chosen is empirically supported by the FOUR different research articles I provided you with. Summarize them, compare and contrast them, whatever you do, just don’t COPY FROM THEM. Make sure you are using the four articles that are meant to go together – stick with your topic.
i. Questions to try to answer here:
A) What are they researching? Who were their subjects? What was their diagnosis? (give details on the diagnosis also – you may have to look that up) How did they do the research? Where did they do their research. Who were their subjects? What were their methods. What types of controls did they use? What were they comparing their method of therapy to? What did they find. Basically compare and contrast and DISCUSS the articles in detail – answer MORE than what I ask above – go above and beyond here….. B) Summarize the similarities and differences that you found in the articles – ie – were they truly investigating the same thing and did they find similar results? Summarize the findings. Do so in a way that REALLY DISCUSSES WHAT YOU FOUND – SHOW THAT YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND YOUR TOPIC AND REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE RESEARCH WAS SAYING – DO NOT JUST STATE FACTS FROM THE ARTICLES – DESCRIBE IT, ELABORATE ON IT, DISCUSS IT, HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT IT…..
C) Based on your review of these articles, do you think that the research that you reviewed does a good job of showing that the treatment is reliable and valid and an effective treatment for the disorder? Or did you see problems or have concerns about whether the research really IS showing efficacy? Were there problems with the research that you think should be addressed in future research? How do you think this research helps the field of psychology? Do you think this style of therapy is a good style to use? Who for? And why? Etc. etc. state your thoughts and opinions here.
3. SUMMARY – Write a summary that summarizes the above info and concludes your paper nicely.
