TO PREPARE:
READ: In our textbook: Krause: Chpt. 7, pages 1-14 “(Click here) The Process of Research Writing.”
READ: “(Click here)– Beyond a Test Score: Explaining Opportunity Gaps in Educational Practice” by Richard Milner– Note this academic/scholarly text was written within 10-12 years.
TASK:
PRODUCE a critique that is no more than three (3) FULL double-spaced, typed pages that follows our TYPING FORMAT.
USE the library to FIND an ACADEMIC/SCHOLARLYLinks to an external site. source with a topic that is very similar (opposing article is fine) to Milner’s about testing and equity. Make sure your academic/scholarly article was written within 10-12 years (no later than 2008)
BRIEFLY SUMMARIZE Milner’s text before moving on to your critique of the scholarly text you plan to use that references an issue of equity in testing.
CRITIQUE the text you choose using Krause, Chpt. 7 as a guide. Note: Though the example Krause included in this chapter uses the language, “I/me/my/you/your/I think/I believe,” you should NOT use this language in your writing. When you write, use “we/us/our/some people/many people/individuals/communities.
CITE Milner’s text (because you are summarizing it, after all) and the text that you find to critique (and any others if you use them), and create a Works Cited page at the end of your document. CLICK HERE for our Works Cited instructional document in that shows you how to create a Works Cited page
This means you will have at least two (2) citations on your Works Cited page!
DO NOT quote/use quotations from the texts, even if you see it in Student Samples. Instead, analyze what the author writes and provide your own examples to support your thinking.
Refer to authors by their LAST NAME(S) only.

How is this assignment being graded/criteria?:
HA #2 is worth one hundred (100) points and will be graded on how closely you followed our textbook (Krause, Chpt 7, pages 1-14). 1.) Did you avoid first person (I/me/my) perspective, even though it is in the sample in our textbook? 2.) Did you summarize Milner’s work first? 3.) Did you find a scholarly source that has the same testing and equity theme using our Library database?Links to an external site. 4.) Did you cite BOTH the Milner and the scholarly/academic source accurately on your Work(s) Cited page?
NOTES:
READ and REFLECT upon the work of authors and take notes to help you gather your thoughts as you move through the texts.
Review and then FOLLOW the FORMAT in STUDENT SAMPLES in our Canvas files.
Use “Hedge Language” and remember, no author’s thinking/writing “shows” or “proves” anything. Their writing indicates, suggests, argues, contends. Images “show.” Data can often prove, but usually indicates, suggests, or identifies.
Refer to authors by their LAST NAME(S) only.
