The quickest way to get to history journals is through this link: https://guides.lib.jmu.edu/history . There you will find Historical Abstracts, JSTOR and Academic Search Complete (Search History), all good places tobegin using key words for your topics. The articles must be peer-reviewed, not Google scholar, nor magazine articles. As for documents, if you are not able to find a written document from the Carrier Library, try collections in other libraries such as Yale (Avalon Project), The National Archives, Stanford Libraries, and others.Topic options: Select one of these topics for your Exercise1.
Discuss whether the vast Middle Eastern oil resources are a curse or a blessing to the nations and the peoples of that region.
In order to write the paper, read the library sources you find and take notes, determine an alternate perspective in the sources, create a thesis statement for the first paragraph of your paper, then write and cite according to the explanation in Instructions #2.
The Research Exercise will be an opportunity for you to examine a critical issue on either Southeast Asia, the Middle East, or Africa as discussed in Duiker’s Contemporary World History, Chapters 13, 14, 15. Your paper should result in a critical analysis of your findings that expands–rather than repeats–the information in the text. The finished paper should include an alternate perspective on the topic found in your sources. Given the unusual circumstances of online learning, this assignment will be short for a research paper, but the goal is to learn a littleabout your topic and give you experience in developing the skills for future in-depth research. I will give you a selection of topics, as it will be difficult to approve individual topics in the time available.
