Both Deloria (2001) and Cajete (2015) compare and contrast American Indian metaphysics with the metaphysics carried by Western science. In Deloria (2001), the educational content is pedagogical, though in the sense that pedagogy is about both teaching and student-ing–i.e. the roles both teachers and students are meant to play in educational settings. For Deloria (2001), the main educational point is about students and, in particular, one about metaphysical orientations for American Indian college students. Cajete (2015), in my mind, is a piece about science curriculum and, in particular, about “self-determination” in the curricular context–i.e. deciding the shape of what will be taught in American Indian communities.
