Description
Three readings will be attached. The Task: The way you respond to the reading is up to you (about 250 to 350 words*), but it needs to have these 5 things: 1. An element of the personal. Beyond giving your “how I feel”, I want you to connect the readings with experiences you have had or other things that you have read. 2. Show that you have looked up some information about the author(s) and context where it is important. 3. Use specific quotes from the articles (be clear who you are quoting). 4. Connect the readings by bringing them into a larger discussion. A downboiled formula to follow is 1) deploy the quote or example, 2) explain your interpretation of said quote in its relationship with the larger topic, 3) show how that supports or doesn’t support a claim. 5. Has two to three questions (with more than a yes-no answer), directed to you classmates. Some topics you could focus on (some ideas to use or not use): 1. how does something’s genre shape (for better or worse) how we experience it 2. how do we go about defining genre 3. how do we understand the limits and strengths of any given genre 4. looking at these pieces of writing, what might you want to imitate in your writing 5. what makes genre important
