Part II: Reading Comprehension. (4 points each; 16 total points) Answer the following questions about “A Question of Stature: Restoring and Ignoring Rocky” by Laura Holzman.
1. What reason did the Art Museum give for its desire to remove the Rocky statue from the Museum steps? (4)
2. Explain what Holzman means when she says, “In each outburst of controversy, Philadelphia’s public image was at stake. The location of the Rocky statue became a matter of contention for Philadelphians based on their politicized identity” (5).
3. How does the first full paragraph on page 6 (the one that begins “Patron Henry S. McNeil…”) relate to the previous paragraph (the one on page 5 that begins “Throughout the decades…”)? 2. (14 pts.) Write a summary of the “Interpretations of the Statue” section. Include an effective topic sentence, an appropriate quote, and an appropriate paraphrase. Be sure to organize your summary around the main point of the section, providing supporting evidence to develop your summary. (approx. 150-250 words)
3. (10 pts.) Summarize, in under 100 words, the section title “Details Overlooked”. Include an effective topic sentence. You do not need to quote or paraphrase.
4. (8 pts.) What is the main point of the Rocky Reclaimed section? Write a topic sentence that would begin your summary of the section. (50 words or less)
Part IV: Vocabulary. (5 points)
Write a short passage (no more than 5-7 sentences) about either (1) your future goals or (2) your performance in your classes this semester. Use five words that you looked up during preparation for the final exam. You can use words from both readings. You can change tenses or modify the word to form a different part of speech (E.g., you can change statue [a noun] to statuesque [an adjective].) Underline each word.
