In this research paper, I will be focusing on racial discrimination in the workplace. In other words, I want to look at how workers of color are being treated in their workplace. During this research, I will also be studying some of the policies that are there to protect the rights of the workers. For example, Affirmative Action is a policy which originated protections for people of color. This policy requires that “consideration is given to the color, race, sex, religion or national origin of an individual to increase the opportunities presented to an underrepresented part of society”. There is also federal policy for anti discrimination in New York sate which is known as New York State Human Rights Law (NYSHRL). This policy stands for “the need for employers to be proactive in preventing and addressing discrimination and harassment in the workplace”. I will also be studying if these policies are good enough and if not what do we need to change.
Select a societal problem (social phenomena) that you are interested in. Be sure that there is enough information on your topic for you to be able to write a project on. Discuss the changes of the problem over time and its current status (has the problem grown over the years?)
2) Select a policy/legislation that was created to address the problem. Discuss the changes of the policy since it was created. Were there many changes? if so, what were the changes? why did the changes occur?
3) Determine if the policy was a success or failure (refer to Greg Berman and Aubrey Fox’s policy failures).
4) Create recommendations to improve the policy to remedy the societal problem. Out of the recommendations you proposed, which one would appear the most feasible?
You are also welcome to apply any of the theories/concepts you have learned in this class to your final project.
The final project should be a minimum of five pages double spaced, APA citation.
