correctional population, particularly among juvenile defenders. Population health nurses working in correctional settings may need to work with people from a variety of different cultures. They may also need to assist correctional staff to develop cultural

competence and assist inmates in the development of conflict resolution skills to minimize the negative effects of conflicts

between cultural groups in the setting. In addition, correctional nurses will need to bridge gaps between correctional and health

care cultures, focusing on meeting inmates’ health needs while maintaining the community safety focus of the correctional culture.

1. Your client has been incarcerated for the past 15 years and has served his sentence. He is about to be released into the community. He has some family living nearby but his parents have since died while he was in prison.
