For our next writing assignment we are going to step outside of our comfort zone. Literally, we are going to step outside! During this time, I have discovered the one thing that really makes me feel better is getting outdoors. Walking, biking, hiking, walking the dog, or just sitting in the park makes me feel better. So I am going to encourage you to also find solace in nature with this assignment. Follow these steps:
1. Read the four nature poems by my favorite poet Mary Oliver.
2. Read the document titled Overview of Poetry Analysis.
3. Choose one of the four poems and write a 200-300 word essay which provides a literary analysis of the poem using the information in the Overview document.
4. Go outside to any place you like to be. Your front or back porch. A trail near your home. A sidewalk where you walk the dog. It does not matter where you go, only that you go to a place that you enjoy for whatever reason. Take a photo of your view in this place. You can place yourself in the photo if you want, but you do not have to.
5. Write a poem about your “outside” place. Total freedom here. Any length, does not have to rhyme, any font, no punctuation or grammar rules apply here.
6. Place the photo you took on the same document as your poem.
7. Put the written poetry analysis, your poem and your photo ALL IN SAME document and turn into the Dropbox no later than May 1, 2020. Have a little fun with this assignment. We can all use it.
