Persuasive letter

Write a persuasive letter to the City of Calgary, Office of Communication. Identify which recreational program category you have chosen or been assigned. What specific program/event/attraction would you like to see changed OR what new program/event/attraction would you like to see introduced in that category. Develop one idea only. Details of the idea? Why is it important? Why should money be spent on it? 1. Compose a persuasive business letter to the City of Calgary Parks and Recreation, Office of Communication. Address it using your instructor’s name. Use a fictitious address for yourself and the instructor. o Use a professional business letter format SIMILAR to the example found on page 196 of the textbook i.e. research other sources. 2. As per Chapter 8 in the textbook, employ the AIDA format (attention, interest, desire, action) and consider the 3 basic elements of persuasion: (establish a need, focus on the benefits, anticipate objections). 3. Also, where possible, consider the additional elements of Ethos, Logos and Pathos as per Aristotle’s core principles of a persuasive argument: (build credibility, create a logical argument and appeal to emotions). 4. Think about what the reader’s questions would likely be and try to answer them in order. 5. Bold your headings if used, and leave a space between paragraphs. 6. You may use bullets but there must be evidence of a minimum of three paragraphs including introduction and conclusion. 7. As per APA, provide a reference page for sources used to compile your information. 8. Submission guidelines include: o Assignment must be typed using Microsoft Word, no PDF files. o Assignment must be a maximum of one typed page. ▪ Use Times New Roman ▪ Font: 11 o Use APA template guidelines including a cover page. o Mandatory word count of at least 350 words. o Writing assignments must include at least three paragraphs and include an introduction, body, and conclusion. o Follow the correct format for writing a business letter. Proofread for correct grammar, usage, punctuation, syntax, and English language usage. 9. Review the rubric. 10. Name your file: “First Name Persuasive Message” eg: Susan Persuasive Message 11.
