PEER RESPONDS TO 2 PEERS IN ONE PAGE, HALF OF PAGE FOR EACH ONE, AND HAVE 1 REFERENCEFOR EACH ONE THE PROMPT QUESTION WAS: Write a summary of your current trend/issue paper that is due next week for your classmates. Explain why you chose your topic, its current relevance, and the research you found regarding it. ‘ PEER 1: My final paper is reflective of technology in the health care setting. I chose this topic because I believe that in today’s world, healthcare does not depend on clinicians alone, it is vastly technology focused. Having the proper technology in healthcare helps nurses ensure patients receive the proper care that is needed. This is a very current topic because health information technology has influenced nursing practice by offering health care professionals the tools they need to deliver quality care to patients. Research has proved that technology has improved patient safety, gives nurses better accessibility, gives information quicker and more efficiently and reduces patient discomfort and risks. In the article, Productivity – The Role Of Technology In The Delivery Of HealthCare, it is mentioned that from mobile devices to telehealth to patient data security, it is essential to provide the best care possible (Blumenfeld, 2016). The article also states that “Healthcare information technology (HIT) has been hailed as a way to reduce these figures by enhancing the quality and safety of care and, through so doing, improving outcomes. I truly agree that functional, dependable technology is needed for healthcare institutions to succeed and to keep running smoothly. Another research article that I found titled Health information technology in hospitals: current issues and future trends, also concluded that technology has made it possible to collect and monitor important information about the patient’s well-being. Technology in health care has helped patients to have access to some of the best diagnostic tools, new treatments, and various procedures resulting in less pain and quicker healing. Explain why you chose your topic, its current relevance, and the research you found regarding it. My current trend/issue paper is going to focus on the lack of nursing self-care and nursing negligence. I chose this topic because I have seen how hard nurses work, and have experienced it myself, and it is sad to say that nurses are sometimes careless of themselves, and tend to forget that they can not save the world, and sometimes it is ok for them to only focus on their well being instead of others. Why it is relevant? Because unhealthy nurses are dangerous for themselves, and for society. Unsurprisingly 68% of surveyed nurses by Purdue University said that they always put the patient’s health, safety, and wellness above their own. Although I do agree with this concept because this is the profession we chose, there is only to a certain extent this can go to. The real ethical concern and nursing dilemma were uprisen during the COVID pandemic when nobody had masks to treat patients, and nurses refused to care for patients without the proper gear. This is a great example of taking things to a certain extent. Yes, I agree, I will do all in my power to care for my patients, but, give me the right supplies, and do not neglect the self-less acts I do to improve health outcomes, safety, and convert it into negligence, and abuse it.
