“On the Rainy River” by Tim O’Brien

Part A. “On the Rainy River” by Tim O’Brien – You should read this short story before you answer the questions below. This short story focuses on a young man who is the author and the protagonist in the story. Tim graduates from college and then is drafted in the summer of 1968. He is nervous about fighting in the Vietnam War, a war that he does not support. During the summer, he works at a meat-processing factory in Minnesota. Later on, Tim wonders about dodging the draft (meaning he would go to Canada so he would not end up going to fight in the Vietnam War). Read about what Tim decides – does he end up going to fight?
