Write an essay of at least 825 words (3 pages) in which you discuss one aspect in the relationship between biological sex and gender. Use and establish a representative example from “The Primordial Journey”, “x & y”, “Dutee”, or “Dana”. Use the techniques from Writing Analytically, Chapters 1-4 in order to generate your significant details from the text and your interpretation of them. Your approach should be analytical. A successful essay will establish a representative example from the text and examine the significance and implications of the idea/thesis that you are developing.
**At the end of your essay writing at least one developed paragraph describing what you attempted to do in your essay and a description of your thinking and writing process for coming up with the topic and approach the writing task ( a reflection of your writing process).** Be sure to have a title for your essay.

In the common sense of people, the X and Y chromosomes determine a human’s gender. The XX will be female and the XY will be a male. However, the chromosomes are far beyond anything we could have imagined. There are also other control systems that include genes in these chromosomes. People’s gender can not determine by biological sex.
First, the most powerful magic on X and Y chromosomes are genes. The genes affect our development. In general, people who have XX will develop into a female, and people who have XY will develop into a male. The gene determines their gender. Genes difference leads to a difference between people. Some people are genetically different. SRY and DMRT1 genes are involved in the determination and regulation of one’s gender. These two genes are similar both in males and females and are responsible for determining one’s gender. The expression of the female gender for example in males is induced by the SRY gene. The expression of male gender for example in females is induced by the DMRT1 gene. When the female expresses in the male, the male begins to produce estrogen, while when the gene in the female is inhibited, the male system suddenly appears, the female begins to produce testosterone, and the size of the testis and ovary changes respectively. The SRY gene can guide germ cells to make male or female cells in gonads. Once the decision is made to make male or female cells, DMRT1 will speed up the pace and control the possible change of gender through the same SRY gene. After the decision to make male or female cells, all genes were shut down and only DMRT1 was active for life. Therefore, sex is determined by these two major genes, where SRY triggers gender change, and Dmrt1 blocks the cascade. In the other situation, what if their genes are defective and not expressed or overexpressed. For example, there is some correlation between humans and fish. Normally, there is one male and many female blue-headed wrasses fish are fertilized by this male. When the male dies or is out of the group, one of the female fish will take the role of male fish. The female fish’s body color and other internal structures will change from female to male. The relationship between the two is because there seems to be the opposite gender that is silenced by the DMRT1 gene in humans. However, the phenotypic structures in humans wouldn’t change. Human sex can change just like that of the bluehead wrasse fishes. Thus, people’s gender can not determine by biological sex.
Another reason is that sometimes gender is undefined because there is no clear definition of gender as there are many contrasting gender-defining things. The physiological defining characteristics of males and a female, and the X and Y chromosomes do not clearly define gender because at times they mix-up. For example, a female can have XY or XYY still expressed as a female. A male can have XXY or XYY still expressed as a male. This may cause a problem in which the definition of gender-based on X and Y chromosomes become unreliable. As a result, the knowledge in which males will produce more testosterone hormones than females also can not be used to draw the line between males and females. For instance, an Indian woman whose name is Dutee was disqualified for the athletics, because she had higher levels of testosterone hormone. This raises questions about the dependence of this hormone as a determinant between men and women. Because of the genetic problem, people are born with different levels of hormones. It is possible for some females to have higher levels of testosterone hormone than other females and vice versa. If the IAAF is to ban Dutee from the Olympics, it should consider doing so if all participants have the same upbringing, the same coaching, and the same practice environment. Consider that Dutee and her sister are practicing barefoot on the bark of the river and then going to compete with other athletes. What if these challenges at the beginning of her training give her a competitive advantage over other athletes? Therefore, it is important to consider various factors that may give me an advantage over others in the athlete to help define one’s running ability. As people grow older, they are known as men or women or transgenders. If a person recognizes that he is a gender from an early age, it will be unfair to impose that they do not belong to that gender. People’s gender can’t determine by biological sex.
Generally, gender is difficult to define because there are a lot of unsure factors. We can’t determine people’s gender from biological sex. They might have different X and Y chromosomes. They might also have different genes. It is unfair to define people’s gender by just using physical tests. Everyone is equal, no matter how different they are. We should treat them as respect. We shouldn’t judge a human by the result of biological sex.
