Mission statement and career path

Assignment 1: Your Mission Statement and Career Path(20% of your final grade).
This should be a fun, but introspective, opportunity for you! For this assignment, you will “begin with the end in mind” (Covey, 1989, p. 106) and develop your personal mission statement. Just as agencies, centers, and organizations have mission statements that are crucial for their effective functioning, your mission statement should be your guide when making life decisions. It is your expression of your values, roles, and goals (vision of who you are and how you want to be) in all areas of your life. Although all the facets of our lives are interrelated, for this assignment, the main focus will be on one aspect of your life, your career.
Included in your mission statement are the strategies for using the statement in order to reach your vision, the goals that need to be accomplished while progressing toward your vision, and the objectives or specific actions and timelines for achieving each of the goals. The objectives clearly describe the path for moving toward and achieving your vision.
Consider the career path within the counseling profession that you are interested in pursuing. A career “path” suggests that you have a vision or final goal in mind and that there are specific actions and timelines (objectives) that must be completed in order to achieve you final goal (vision). It suggests that you are currently in one place and you are moving toward another.

In order to fulfill your mission, you must investigate and write about what roles a counselor on this path plays, what settings you might work in, what specialized training might be needed, and what challenges you might face in this particular role. Finally, discuss how the values, roles, and goals of this profession are compatible with you achieving your personal mission statement.
You can use bullet points for your timeline. And, your methodology can include (but is not mandatory) interviewing someone who is currently filling that role, or simply research. Please write in the first person; it is easier to write and read.
This paper should be 4-6 pages of written text, not including your required Cover page, Abstract, and Reference pages, and follow proper APA Style. Use the APA Publication Manual 7th ed. or Purdue Owl (online).
