with examples.
2. Anderson and Ruhs (2010) argue that ‘irregular migration’ should be seen on a
continuum between legality and illegality. Discuss with reference to state immigration
policies and migrant strategies.
3. Brain drain, brain gain or brain circulation? Critically discuss the migration flows
of highly skilled migrants across the globe and the impact of this movement on host
and origin countries.

gained rather than lost the capacity to monitor and control the movement of people by

consequences for national states and immigrants. Illustrate your answer with

by the experience of economic boom and bust?
8. Beaverstock (2012) argues that the strong growth in certain economic sectors over
the past three decades has necessitated the mobility of highly skilled transnational
migrants. Discuss the role of labour market policies, employer recruitment practices
and migrants strategies using examples to illustrate your argument.
9. The role of ‘diaspora capital’ is increasingly recognized by nation states as a
strategy to harness remittances of various types. Critically consider drawing from
relevant studies.
