You will be asked to analyze a situation and make a recommendation on the course of action to be taken.
This project is to practice analyzing an item, selecting a course of action and recommending that course of action.
The instructions are detailed below:
1. Select an item to analyze. Please select one part of that item and detail what it is today. Use any of the material science topics such as mechanical or electrical properties, phase diagrams, manufacturing processes. Any topic which you believe the best supports why this material is being used. Your analysis MUST include a cost analysis using the tools in Chapter 22.
2. You will then select three alternate materials. You will use the same analysis tools in Step 1 and apply those tools to these three alternate materials. The point is to compare these three alternate materials to the base material.
3. You will then select one of the three alternate materials and recommend a design change to the item using this new material and why.
4. You will create a 4-6 slide PowerPoint presentation. You will present your item, the base material, your three alternate material choices and your recommendation on one of the three alternate materials.
