Based on the fact pattern presented, your lease, Virginia landlord tenant law, and/or other credible, reliable sources, that I have given to you, you must draft an argument letter to the landlord requesting ONE of the remedies (options) available under the law.
Remember that this is an argument letter. You will need to convince your landlord to fulfill your request using evidence and analysis. Therefore, you will need an introduction with a thesis (Hint: The thesis should state which remedy you are requesting), and each paragraph will need a topic sentence. You will also need a conclusion. Remember everything you have learned this year about audience, tone, purpose, organization, structure, evidence, and analysis. Think about pathos, ethos, and logos. Which one(s) will best suit your purposes (another hint: probably not pathos).
A copy of your lease has been provided for you. I have also various documents to help you understand the landlord- tenant law you will use.
You will need to cite your laws/statues/research (look up how to cite statues, etc in MLA). For clarity, the name of your sources/evidence must be in the body of your letter. For example, “According to Virginia Law 235-04, a landlord is required to….” Or “Under the Lease, Section B(a) Landlord Responsibilities…”
Your letter to your landlord must be 1-2 pages in business letter format. You must use Times New Roman 12pt font, 1” margins on all sides, and single-space. Please do not forget to include a greeting and closing salutation (“Sincerely” would probably work best).
