Term Paper- The term paper requires researching, describing, analyzing the effectiveness of a real leader of an organization. The person must be contemporary, and may be from a business, government, political, religious, or educational institution. The paper will be evaluated on the following criteria:
1) CONTENT (25%): Includes ALL aspects of the leadership functions, competencies and practices in our VCMA model covered and discussed; includes ideas and facts from our articles and the textbook:
*Role model: The persons effectiveness based on our VCMA model of leadership behavior
*Overall Qualities: Examples of weaknesses and faults as well as strengths
*Benchmarks: Use of models and standards from NORTHOUSE’S textbook on leadership
*Personal Style: (see Big 5 model) tone, attitude, sensitivity, relaxed, toughness, friendliness etc.
*Human Skills: Ease in with people; ability to communicate ideas, EQ, interpersonal skills, mindfulness
2) Research & Analysis (25%): Follows a logic- Premise, Facts, Logical Reasoning, Conclusions:
*Research: Reading articles, watching YouTube’s of the person, reading/listening to interviews
*Premise: Summary of the purposes/priorities that must be achieved by the leader’s organization
*Facts: About the person’s effectiveness, impact and results achieved. Includes new and thoughtful insights about the leader’s effectiveness
3)Effort (40%): The paper demonstrates:
*The content, research, & analysis required in #1&2 above are thorough and complete
*Student has stretched beyond the obvious and well-known facts about the leader
*Format has been taken seriously
4)Format (10%):
*Cover Page must include student name, course and paper title
*Paper must NOT exceed ten written pages (excluding cover page and addendum)
*Demonstrate good grammar and writing standards
*Pages must be FULL pages; use 11pt font size and half inch margins and pagination
*Include a bibliography of any references used in your analysis
*Citations used in text must be APA format
