Description

You will write a 5 page critique of I am Malala. This will comprise a critique of subject matter, not a summary of the contents of the book. Students must engage with the reading materials from class to write this assignment.

One of the primary questions of the book report is: Who has written the book and how is the primary author and the narrative of the book shaped by their cultural/political history and context? Why is this tale important? If you were to explain why this book is important to a friend, what would you say?

This assignment requires a draft. A draft is an important first step toward writing the book report. This stage is meant to give you confidence when you turn in the final assignment. It is not optional. We will conduct a peer review in the peer mentor section for this class where you will exchange your draft with another class member. Your classmate will give you feedback on your effort thus far by providing comment. I will furnish a peer review sheet on your course shell.

How does it connect to the topics you have read and studied for this class? Try not to create an “us and them” dichotomy in your account. If you want to establish difference, contextualize that difference in cultural, political, economic terms. What is the larger message of the book?
