The paper must show a strong grasp of all the course material that is relevant to the question, including the audio recordings. Papers based only on the WTWA text and outside websites are insufficient to answer the question fully; the audios and videos must be cited.

-Provide a clear thesis within an introduction paragraph. The introduction paragraph should frame the topic, and at some point the introduction must include a thesis statement.

-Provide arguments and evidence that support the thesis in subsequent paragraphs. Feel free to arrange your paper as you wish, but there must be a clear logical flow. Do not skip around between topics and time periods. If you cannot divine a clear flow based on themes, feel free to order your paper chronologically by starting with the oldest topic and proceeding to the most recent topic.
-Write clearly.

Most of the supporting evidence in your paper will come from audio and video recordings, the textbook and PowerPoints. Citation of additional resources (books, articles, etc.) can also help to strengthen your argument. But, again, the core of the supporting evidence should come from assigned course materials. Citations should take the following form:

-For textbook Worlds Together, Worlds Apart use: WTWA, followed by the page number of the material being cited. For example:

In the sixteenth century, China’s economy expanded alongside trade in the Indian Ocean (WTWA 443).

-For PowerPoints, use the week number followed by PPT. For example:

The events of 1066 effectively marked the end of Viking raids in Europe (Week 3 PPT).

The paper must be written using 1.25” margins, 12-point font, and double-spaced text. Any attempt to skirt guidelines by writing a paper that is less than 4-full pages long will result in significant penalties.
