Length: 5 full pages (minimum length requirement). I will not accept short papers. It is best to go on to the 6th page, therefore, your works cited page would be on the 7th page. Irregular papers and short papers receive the same penalties as late papers. See the syllabus for further clarity. No revisions are accepted for the Cause and Effect Essay.

FORMATTING: MLA formatting is required with a standard heading on the first page as well as standard pagination throughout the essay.
DOCUMENTATION: Our class uses only MLA style documentation. Every college paper has both in-text citations and a works cited page.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: No plagiarism of any form will be accepted.
ESSAY SOURCES: Three CRAAP Tested Sources Required that offer examples and evidence to support claims that you make in the argumentative essay. These may include articles from the college’s databases, such as:
Academic One, ProQuest, Statista, ERIC, Education Database, CQ Researcher, or Opposing ViewpointsE-books from the college catalog
Hard copies of journals or books from the college catalog
Again, use a minimum of three CRAAP tested sources to help you support and develop your causal analysis. Use no more than four CRAAP tested sources from the PGCC library database.
ESSAY PROMPT:
For this assignment, you will explore the causes or effects of a current social, medical, environmental, or political issue. You can select your own topic to analyze. If you are unable to generate a topic of your own, you can choose one of the issues from the Final Research Essay # 4 list.
However, you cannot write about the same topic for Final Research Essay # 4. This is non-negotiable. You will have to select a new item to research for Final Research Essay # 4.
Gun Reform
Voter Suppression
Food Insecurity
Silicon Valley
Healthcare Reform
Transgender “Panic Legislation”
Criminal Justice Reform
Cybersecurity
Artificial Intelligence
Prison Reform
Homelessness
Your introduction should present relevant background information about the issue, and you will state your thesis as a focal claim that centers on the causes or effects of the problem.
Note: Although our book does discuss essays that address both the causes and then the effects, focus on either causes or effects for this assignment and not both.
Remember these topics need to be framed in one of two ways:
Cause A leads to: Effect B, Effect C, Effect D
Or Effect D stems from: Cause A, Cause B, Cause C
Organizing and Drafting Your Essay:
1) Your introductory paragraph(s) should provide some background information (an example or an anecdote, or statistical information about the problem) before you lead into your claim about the causes or the effects.
2) Be sure to discuss three causes or effects in at least three well-developed supporting paragraphs. Include evidence from your three or four sources to help you promote and develop your ideas about the causes or effects of your issue.
3) The use of counterarguments, rebuttals, and one concession must be demonstrated with the use of an expert source for three elements. This skill must be shown to pass the paper.
4) As you consider your audience, think about how to make your readers care about the topic.
Why is it important? Your conclusion should reaffirm your claim about the causes or effects; the conclusion might also be an excellent place to express the importance of understanding – and addressing – the problem.
