| Historical Research Students are to find at least two original-source documents (articles, books, photographs, advertisements, letters, etc.). Documents must be from 1970 or earlier. All documents must be “new” (not previously used or seen in class materials (readings or class lectures – if a book, cannot be from book report list). Students may not share documents. For each document, the student must: 1. Provide a copy of the document and citation for where the document was found. 2. Provide background information on the document (who took the picture?, who are the people in the picture? Who wrote the article? Where was this document originally published/taken? Etc.) You may need to do extra research to find out more about the background of your document and/or the people involved. 3. Discuss what THIS document tells us about Deaf people’s lives/experiences/perceptions (or how Deaf people were perceived by others) during THIS time period? Use clues found in the document (phrasing, clothing, facial expressions, etc. 4. Discuss how this document illustrates topics covered (or not) in class. 5. Discuss how THIS document increases or expands our current understanding/knowledge of Deaf history. 6.
