This final paper will be a summation of your coursework this semester. You will need to incorporate the readings and class materials in your paper as well as your thoughts about each class. You must reference each assigned chapter at least once in the paper; incorporate as many of the other readings that will support your thoughts.
Reflect back to the first day of class when you did the in-class assignment. What is the role of the health counselor? List any health behavior theories and/or models that you are aware of and describe briefly how they can be used by a health counselor. What skills do you think a health counselor needs to be effective?
Reflect back to your answers on the first day, what have you now learned about being a counselor, what are some qualities that you need and/or are important to possess? What are some skills that you have acquired in this class? What skills do you think you need to develop?
Reflect on the various models that we have discussed including the Eight Dimensions of Wellness, the Health Belief Model, the Stages of Change Model, Erickson and Maslow to name a few. How can you apply these theories and models as a counselor? Which ones did you find most useful? How have you already used them in your work?
What do you think is important for a new counselor to know? What would you now tell yourself on the first day of class about the types of things that you would learn in this class? Has your idea of the role of the health counselor changed? If so how? If not, what did you learn about being a health counselor that met your original ideas?
Reflecting on the course material how do you now feel about being a health counselor? Please support your argument. Include references from every chapter and reading that were assigned.
This paper should be a minimum of 6 pages (1500 words) and a maximum of 8 (2000 words). Use 12 point font, double spaced with 1 inch margins.
