Formulating Scholarly Questions

In this assignment, you will brainstorm ideas in areas of interest to you within the discipline of psychology. To get your creative juices flowing, review the Brainstorming Ideas Guide. (This is a time for creative, constructive, and critical thinking, so try not to hold back your ideas at first and jot down as many as you can without any judgment!) You will use your top 3 ideas in your conversation with your mentor this week.

The main point and intent of this mentorship exchange is to help you to understand how a research process works, and to get the ball rolling. The end result for this weeks’ mentorship exchange is not for you to have a clearly identified research topic. In fact, it’s perfectly normal for this type of brainstorming to generate more questions about what you want to research. Research is an iterative process that takes time and persistence.

Describe the top 3 ideas that emerged from your brainstorming process this week.
For each of your 3 ideas, discuss the type of research you might want to do in this area.
Include the who, what, when, where, and why of your research options.
Briefly identify the NCU support systems and resources that can help you to begin to research in any of your 3 identified areas of interest.
Based on your research discussion, formulate 3 questions for your mentor that will help you to know where to begin a research process (For example: How can I find out if my research idea has already been done?)
