At this point, you now have an understanding of something current and interesting happening in your field of study. In order to prepare you for work in this field, you will now do some in-depth research and write a report that addresses this topic in detail.
You will need to use eight current (no earlier than 2018) electronic secondary sources* in addition to any primary source information such as what you might have learned from your experience in Short Report II. These should be reputable sources that will help you and your audience understand this topic. This information can help provide context, provide statistics, some history as to the issue, and so on. Synthesizing this information with your own ideas and insight:
Present your findings in a detailed (1700-2000 word) formal report.
*I must be able to access all sources used in this report, via either the deep or surface web. If you have a book you’d like to use, please get approval from me first.
Notes and Tips:
Narrow your scope. Topics that are too broad may feel easy to research (“Diabetes,” or “The Financial Crisis,” or “Construction Costs), but the discussion of the material will be too superficial. Instead, tighten the focus (“Type 2 Diabetes in Los Angeles County” or “Impact of Interest Rates on _______,” or “LEED Building in the City of Santa Monica.”)
Use the sections in the text on “Formal Reports” to inform this document. However, I do not require an Abstract, Executive Summary, or Table of Contents in a document of this length.A transmittal letter, cover page, report, and citations are sufficient. You are welcome to include Appendixes, but they are not required.
Use either APA or MLA formatting for your sources, as long as you’re consistent.
Make use of at least two effective, relevant visuals in the document.
