Then discuss the principles of design—balance, emphasis and focal point, scale and proportion, repetition and rhythm, and unity and variety… Which of the formal elements or principles of design stands out to you and how are they used in the composition? You must use at least 3 terms related to formal elements (chapters 3 – 6) and 2 terms related to principles of design (chapter 7). In this paragraph, be sure you do not talk about subject matter or content. In an additional paragraph (do not use bullet points), research the artist and artwork briefly. You do not need to go into great detail—just a paragraph worth of highlights. However, you must correctly cite your work, and your work cannot be copied and pasted. It must be in your own words (though you may include a quote, in quotation marks). For guidance on one form of correct citing, view the sample assignment.
