Considering this week’s lecture and assigned materials, Dr. Kim mentioned a classic tension in urban planning is how to address inequality. Urban planning started as a response to public health crises in large urban centers. CDC reports have indicated that COVID 19 hospitalizations are disproportionately affecting Black people in major cities across the US due to racial disparities in healthcare. Dr. Kim says that urban planning is about imagined futures and imagined communities. Considering this week’s course materials (podcast, readings, recorded lecture, and video), in 2-3 paragraphs please describe: If you were an urban planner, what kinds of policy changes would you propose to address inequities in the US healthcare system?
