To help you with this week’s activity, I posted the below information in the General Discussion room. Please review the information to ensure that you are successful. The reality with financial and accounting analysis is that all information is not necessarily easily found and it is rarely in the same location as every investor has key features that they look for. With that said, a lot of this class is about exploration and becoming familiar with how to access and calculate key financial information. For this week’s activity, the rubric calls for using information from Morningstar, SEC EDGAR Company Filings, looking up financial reports, or when information is not available (industry ratios) you can compare five-year averages for your two companies. For the Morningstar website you can start by entering your company’s ticker symbol in the upper left-hand box and then select your company from the drop down box. Next select “Key Ratios” from the upper center of the screen and then for more information you can select “Full Key Ratios Data” from the lower center of your screen. The one thing that you will not find are the industry ratios as there is no “Index” column as indicated in the rubric. If you stay with Morningstar you can click through the site (note your Industry by looking under the “Company Profile,” and you can calculate and compare five-year averages as noted in the rubric. This does not mean that industry ratios are not available it just means that you have to dig a little more and become familiar with additional resources. As you might imagine, there are many financial tools available and one place where you can find much of the data we will need for this week’s assignment is at CSIMarkets.com or by clicking CSIMarket.com From this financial site and this page you should see three drop down boxes in the center of the page “Industry,” “Category,” and “Period.” From here you can select your industry and current period and then click through the categories to find information specific to the industry ratios and much of the information called for in the worksheet for this week’s assignment.
