FEDERALISM: Prevention and Response to COVID-19Pandemic

This paper assignment requires you to consider federalism, as a system of government, when it comes to fighting pandemic. As you know from course material covered earlier this semester, federalism is not a common type of government system across the world’s 190+ nation states. Instead, unitary governments with more centralized power are more numerous than the U.S. relatively decentralized system of federalism. Specifically, this paper topic requires you to evaluate the relative strengths and weaknesses of our federal system in identifying and responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Successful completion of this assignment requires the following:
– Discuss how government power is distributed to identify and respond to pandemic. Which level of government is in charge of which aspects of the public health response?
– Discuss the non-governmental players in the U.S. pandemic response and explain who has power to determine how these players prepare for and respond to pandemic.
-Based on research from authoritative sources, discuss/explain the ways in which the decentralization of power can be an advantage in identifying/responding to pandemic.
– Also, discuss/explain the ways in which American federalism appears to be ill-suited to the needs of identifying/responding to pandemic.
– Lastly, based on your analysis, discuss whatever specific recommendations you have to improve American federalism as a means to protect the public health from pandemic.
Your sources should be authoritative and should be cited using any acceptable citation method, such as APA or MLA, for example. The essay should be 3 pages in length (plus additional space for citations) with standard 1-inch margins and standard font. Spacing between lines should be 11⁄2 (not double spacing).
