Choose one of the novellas we have read this semester. Then find one scholarly article of literary criticism analyzing the novella. Then write a four-to-seven page paper in which you:
• Summarize the ideas in the article (no more than two pages)
• Respond to/give your opinion of the article as it relates to the novella. Do you agree or disagree with the article’s ideas about the novella and why? What can this article teach us about the novella, and what more might we want to know? (about two or three pages)
• Close your paper with your own critical analysis of the element of the novella that the articles focus on. For example, if the article focuses on the setting of the story, you can discuss your position on how the setting influences the story. If the article focuses on the author’s biography, you might look up additional information about the author and consider how his life experienced influenced his novella. Et cetera. (one page)
In addition, the research paper must:
• Include a Works Cited page. Include sources for the novella, the article, and any other outside information you use. Note: the Works Cited page does not count as one of the four to seven required pages.
• Properly cite all quotes, paraphrases, and unique ideas derived from researched sources within the text.
• Be in MLA format, double-spaced, in 12 pt. Times New Roman or Arial font, and with one inch margins on all sides.
• Be proofread and free of grammatical and spelling errors.
