Your (two-part) question is: How did the market revolution and political democratization between 1790 and 1860 challenge the republican ideological assumptions held by the nation’s founders? In what ways did Americans adapt republican ideology to address these changes?
Important instructions
1) Your answer must draw for support on at least five of the assigned readings discussed in class. These must include at least one of the two assigned books (Liberty and Power and Gabriel’s Rebellion). Each essay counts as a separate reading.
2) Citations of the readings should be in-text and must conform to the following format: (author last name, page number). Please remember that book titles must always be italicized, and essay titles put in quotation marks.
